I don't get to say that very often, but it is in order this week! Merrill
got a call on Tuesday letting him know he will be the
Rear D Commander......meaning he will be staying in Texas and
NOT going to Iraq. So we are moving to Texas!
We are both so excited to start
looking for a house - to BUY! -
and to get some good Texas sized steaks!

That's great! Texas is one of our top 5 states we'd like to live in (Utah isn't :)). I'm so happy for you that Merrill isn't going to Iraq!

Rear D is one of those mixed bag assignments. The wives are always thrilled, but its really hard on the guys. My best friends hubby was our Rear D commander this last deployment and he was in *!#*#**!* the whole time. He told me over and over that he would rather be deployed. It was really hard on my friend too because he might have been physically home, but he was never home, and the kids never saw him. Ron has said that he'd rather be deployed than be Rear D too. I hope it works out for you guys and that it isn't miserable for Merrill, or for you. Good luck. And where in Texas? You don't give enough details Makenna!

How exciting for all of you. As you know, I grew in a military family as well. Don't let the other stories define who you are as people, as a family. Your integrity,faith and love for each other will take you a long ways.

Lets face it, when they are in command you don't see them too much anyway. The good news is, at least you get to sleep with him at night!!! I'm so happy for you guys.

I am super excited! I agree with Theresa, command is command. You and Merrill have a strong relationship and enjoy one another. You will be able to work out the "not-so-fun" parts of Rear-D. ENJOY THE FACT THAT HE'S WITH YOU AND NOT DEPLOYED!!!!! YEAH, for your family. (And, you're closer to us, than Cal or Hawaii.)
